John 1:4-14

DBY 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. NIV 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. DBY 5 And the light appears in darkness, and the darkness apprehended it not. NIV 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. DBY 6 There was a man sent from God, his name John. NIV 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. DBY 7 He came for witness, that he might witness concerning the light, that all might believe through him. NIV 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. DBY 8 *He* was not the light, but that he might witness concerning the light. NIV 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. DBY 9 The true light was that which, coming into the world, lightens every man. NIV 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. DBY 10 He was in the world, and the world had [its] being through him, and the world knew him not. NIV 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. DBY 11 He came to his own, and his own received him not; NIV 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. DBY 12 but as many as received him, to them gave he [the] right to be children of God, to those that believe on his name; NIV 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- DBY 13 who have been born, not of blood, nor of flesh's will, nor of man's will, but of God. NIV 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. DBY 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we have contemplated his glory, a glory as of an only-begotten with a father), full of grace and truth; NIV 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
