Joshua 1

NLT 1 After the death of Moses the ’s servant, the spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, NIV 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide: NLT 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. NIV 2 "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them--to the Israelites. NLT 3 I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you— NIV 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. NLT 4 from the Negev wilderness in the south to the Lebanon mountains in the north, from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west, including all the land of the Hittites.’ NIV 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates--all the Hittite country--to the Great Sea on the west. NLT 5 No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. NIV 5 No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. NLT 6 “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. NIV 6 "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. NLT 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. NIV 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. NLT 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. NIV 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. NLT 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the your God is with you wherever you go.” NIV 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." NLT 10 Joshua then commanded the officers of Israel, NIV 10 So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: NLT 11 “Go through the camp and tell the people to get their provisions ready. In three days you will cross the Jordan River and take possession of the land the your God is giving you.” NIV 11 "Go through the camp and tell the people, 'Get your supplies ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you for your own.' " NLT 12 Then Joshua called together the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. He told them, NIV 12 But to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said, NLT 13 “Remember what Moses, the servant of the , commanded you: ‘The your God is giving you a place of rest. He has given you this land.’ NIV 13 "Remember the command that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: 'The LORD your God is giving you rest and has granted you this land.' NLT 14 Your wives, children, and livestock may remain here in the land Moses assigned to you on the east side of the Jordan River. But your strong warriors, fully armed, must lead the other tribes across the Jordan to help them conquer their territory. Stay with them NIV 14 Your wives, your children and your livestock may stay in the land that Moses gave you east of the Jordan, but all your fighting men, fully armed, must cross over ahead of your brothers. You are to help your brothers NLT 15 until the gives them rest, as he has given you rest, and until they, too, possess the land the your God is giving them. Only then may you return and settle here on the east side of the Jordan River in the land that Moses, the servant of the , assigned to you.” NIV 15 until the LORD gives them rest, as he has done for you, and until they too have taken possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving them. After that, you may go back and occupy your own land, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you east of the Jordan toward the sunrise." NLT 16 They answered Joshua, “We will do whatever you command us, and we will go wherever you send us. NIV 16 Then they answered Joshua, "Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. NLT 17 We will obey you just as we obeyed Moses. And may the your God be with you as he was with Moses. NIV 17 Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses. NLT 18 Anyone who rebels against your orders and does not obey your words and everything you command will be put to death. So be strong and courageous!” NIV 18 Whoever rebels against your word and does not obey your words, whatever you may command them, will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous!"
