Joshua 1

NRS 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' assistant, saying, NIV 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide: NRS 2 "My servant Moses is dead. Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites. NIV 2 "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them--to the Israelites. NRS 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, as I promised to Moses. NIV 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. NRS 4 From the wilderness and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, to the Great Sea in the west shall be your territory. NIV 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates--all the Hittite country--to the Great Sea on the west. NRS 5 No one shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. NIV 5 No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. NRS 6 Be strong and courageous; for you shall put this people in possession of the land that I swore to their ancestors to give them. NIV 6 "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. NRS 7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to act in accordance with all the law that my servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, so that you may be successful wherever you go. NIV 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. NRS 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to act in accordance with all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall be successful. NIV 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. NRS 9 I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." NIV 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." NRS 10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, NIV 10 So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: NRS 11 "Pass through the camp, and command the people: "Prepare your provisions; for in three days you are to cross over the Jordan, to go in to take possession of the land that the Lord your God gives you to possess.' " NIV 11 "Go through the camp and tell the people, 'Get your supplies ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you for your own.' " NRS 12 To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, NIV 12 But to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said, NRS 13 "Remember the word that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, "The Lord your God is providing you a place of rest, and will give you this land.' NIV 13 "Remember the command that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: 'The LORD your God is giving you rest and has granted you this land.' NRS 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan. But all the warriors among you shall cross over armed before your kindred and shall help them, NIV 14 Your wives, your children and your livestock may stay in the land that Moses gave you east of the Jordan, but all your fighting men, fully armed, must cross over ahead of your brothers. You are to help your brothers NRS 15 until the Lord gives rest to your kindred as well as to you, and they too take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to your own land and take possession of it, the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan to the east." NIV 15 until the LORD gives them rest, as he has done for you, and until they too have taken possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving them. After that, you may go back and occupy your own land, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you east of the Jordan toward the sunrise." NRS 16 They answered Joshua: "All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. NIV 16 Then they answered Joshua, "Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. NRS 17 Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you, as he was with Moses! NIV 17 Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses. NRS 18 Whoever rebels against your orders and disobeys your words, whatever you command, shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous." NIV 18 Whoever rebels against your word and does not obey your words, whatever you may command them, will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous!"
