Joshua 21

GNT 1 The leaders of the Levite families went to Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and to the heads of the families of all the tribes of Israel. NIV 1 Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel GNT 2 There at Shiloh in the land of Canaan they said to them, "The Lord commanded through Moses that we were to be given cities to live in, as well as pasture land around them for our livestock." NIV 2 at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, "The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock." GNT 3 So in accordance with the Lord's command the people of Israel gave the Levites certain cities and pasture lands out of their own territories. NIV 3 So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance: GNT 4 The families of the Levite clan of Kohath were the first to be assigned cities. The families who were descended from Aaron the priest were assigned thirteen cities from the territories of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. NIV 4 The first lot came out for the Kohathites, clan by clan. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin. GNT 5 The rest of the clan of Kohath was assigned ten cities from the territories of Ephraim, Dan, and West Manasseh. NIV 5 The rest of Kohath's descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh. GNT 6 The clan of Gershon was assigned thirteen cities from the territories of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and East Manasseh. NIV 6 The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. GNT 7 The families of the clan of Merari were assigned twelve cities from the territories of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. NIV 7 The descendants of Merari, clan by clan, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun. GNT 8 By drawing lots, the people of Israel assigned these cities and their pasture lands to the Levites, as the Lord had commanded through Moses. NIV 8 So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. GNT 9 These are the names of the cities from the territories of Judah and Simeon which were given NIV 9 From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name GNT 10 to the descendants of Aaron who were of the clan of Kohath, which was descended from Levi. Their assignment was the first to be made. NIV 10 (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them): GNT 11 They were given the city of Arba (Arba was Anak's father), now called Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasture land surrounding it. NIV 11 They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.) GNT 12 However, the fields of the city, as well as its towns, had already been given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession. NIV 12 But the fields and villages around the city they had given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession. GNT 13 In addition to Hebron (one of the cities of refuge), the following cities were assigned to the descendants of Aaron the priest: Libnah, NIV 13 So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Libnah, GNT 14 Jattir, Eshtemoa, NIV 14 Jattir, Eshtemoa, GNT 15 Holon, Debir, NIV 15 Holon, Debir, GNT 16 Ain, Juttah, and Beth Shemesh, with their pasture lands: nine cities from the tribes of Judah and Simeon. NIV 16 Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands--nine towns from these two tribes. GNT 17 From the territory of Benjamin they were given four cities: Gibeon, Geba, NIV 17 And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon, Geba, GNT 18 Anathoth, and Almon, with their pasture lands. NIV 18 Anathoth and Almon, together with their pasturelands--four towns. GNT 19 Thirteen cities in all, with their pasture lands, were given to the priests, the descendants of Aaron. NIV 19 All the towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, were thirteen, together with their pasturelands. GNT 20 The other families of the Levite clan of Kohath were assigned some cities from the territory of Ephraim. NIV 20 The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim: GNT 21 They were given four cities: Shechem and its pasture lands in the hill country of Ephraim (one of the cities of refuge), Gezer, NIV 21 In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer, GNT 22 Kibzaim, and Beth Horon, with their pasture lands. NIV 22 Kibzaim and Beth Horon, together with their pasturelands--four towns. GNT 23 From the territory of Dan they were given four cities: Eltekeh, Gibbethon, NIV 23 Also from the tribe of Dan they received Eltekeh, Gibbethon, GNT 24 Aijalon, and Gathrimmon, with their pasture lands. NIV 24 Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands--four towns. GNT 25 From the territory of West Manasseh they were given two cities: Taanach and Gathrimmon, with their pasture lands. NIV 25 From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands--two towns. GNT 26 These families of the clan of Kohath received ten cities in all, with their pasture lands. NIV 26 All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans. GNT 27 Another group of Levites, the clan of Gershon, received from the territory of East Manasseh two cities: Golan in Bashan (one of the cities of refuge) and Beeshterah, with their pasture lands. NIV 27 The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshtarah, together with their pasturelands--two towns; GNT 28 From the territory of Issachar they received four cities: Kishion, Daberath, NIV 28 from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion, Daberath, GNT 29 Jarmuth, and Engannim, with their pasture lands. NIV 32 from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands--three towns. GNT 33 The various families of the clan of Gershon received a total of thirteen cities with their pasture lands. NIV 33 All the towns of the Gershonite clans were thirteen, together with their pasturelands. GNT 34 The rest of the Levites, the clan of Merari, received from the territory of Zebulun four cities: Jokneam, Kartah, NIV 34 The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, Kartah, GNT 35 Dimnah, and Nahalal, with their pasture lands. NIV 35 Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasturelands--four towns; GNT 36 From the territory of Reuben they received four cities: Bezer, Jahaz, NIV 36 from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, Jahaz, GNT 37 Kedemoth, and Mephaath, with their pasture lands. NIV 37 Kedemoth and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands--four towns; GNT 38 From the tribe of Gad they received four cities: Ramoth in Gilead, with its pasture lands (one of the cities of refuge), Mahanaim, NIV 38 from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim, GNT 39 Heshbon, and Jazer, with their pasture lands. NIV 39 Heshbon and Jazer, together with their pasturelands--four towns in all. GNT 40 So the clan of Merari was assigned a total of twelve cities. NIV 40 All the towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, were twelve. GNT 41 From the land that the people of Israel possessed, a total of forty-eight cities, with the pasture lands around them, was given to the Levites. NIV 41 The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands. GNT 43 So the Lord gave to Israel all the land that he had solemnly promised their ancestors he would give them. When they had taken possession of it, they settled down there. NIV 43 So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their forefathers, and they took possession of it and settled there. GNT 44 The Lord gave them peace throughout the land, just as he had promised their ancestors. Not one of all their enemies had been able to stand against them, because the Lord gave the Israelites the victory over all their enemies. NIV 44 The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their forefathers. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD handed all their enemies over to them. GNT 45 The Lord kept every one of the promises that he had made to the people of Israel. NIV 45 Not one of all the LORD's good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
