1 Y habló el SEÑOR a Josué, diciendo

2 Habla a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Señalaos las ciudades de refugio, de las cuales <em>yo</em> os hablé por Moisés

3 para que se acoja allí el homicida que matare a alguno por yerro y no a sabiendas; que os sean por refugio contra el vengador {Heb. redentor} de la sangre <em>del muerto</em>

4 Y el que se acogiere a alguna de aquellas ciudades, se presentará a la puerta de la ciudad, y dirá sus causas, oyéndolo los ancianos de aquella ciudad; y ellos le recibirán consigo dentro de la ciudad, y le darán lugar que habite con ellos

5 Y cuando el vengador {Heb. redentor} de la sangre le siguiere, no entregarán en su mano al homicida, por cuanto hirió a su prójimo por yerro, ni tuvo con él antes enemistad

6 Y quedará en aquella ciudad hasta que comparezca en juicio delante de la congregación <em>y</em> hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote que fuere en aquel tiempo; entonces el homicida podrá volver a su ciudad y a su casa y a la ciudad de donde huyó

7 Entonces señalaron a Cedes en Galilea, en el monte de Neftalí, y a Siquem en el monte de Efraín, y a Quiriat-arba, que es Hebrón, en el monte de Judá

8 Y al otro lado del Jordán de Jericó, al oriente, señalaron a Beser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, y a Ramot en Galaad de la tribu de Gad, y a Golán en Basán de la tribu de Manasés

9 Estas fueron las ciudades señaladas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero que morara entre ellos, para que se acogiera a ellas cualquiera que hiriera hombre por yerro; para que no muriera por mano del vengador {Heb. redentor} de la sangre, hasta que compareciera delante de la congregación

New International Version NIV

1 Then the LORD said to Joshua:

2 “Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses,

3 so that anyone who kills a person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there and find protection from the avenger of blood.

4 When they flee to one of these cities, they are to stand in the entrance of the city gate and state their case before the elders of that city. Then the elders are to admit the fugitive into their city and provide a place to live among them.

5 If the avenger of blood comes in pursuit, the elders must not surrender the fugitive, because the fugitive killed their neighbor unintentionally and without malice aforethought.

6 They are to stay in that city until they have stood trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest who is serving at that time. Then they may go back to their own home in the town from which they fled.”

7 So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.

8 East of the Jordan (on the other side from Jericho) they designated Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau in the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead in the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan in the tribe of Manasseh.

9 Any of the Israelites or any foreigner residing among them who killed someone accidentally could flee to these designated cities and not be killed by the avenger of blood prior to standing trial before the assembly.
