1 Pero Jericó estaba cerrada, bien cerrada, a causa de los hijos de Israel; nadie entraba, ni salía.

2 Mas el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: Mira, <I>yo</I> he entregado en tu mano a Jericó y a su rey, <I>con</I> sus varones de guerra.

3 Cercaréis pues la ciudad todos los hombres de guerra, yendo alrededor de la ciudad una vez; y esto haréis seis días.

4 Y siete sacerdotes llevarán siete <I>trompetas de</I> cuernos de carneros delante del arca; y al séptimo día daréis siete vueltas a la ciudad, y los sacerdotes tocarán las trompetas.

5 Y cuando tocaren <I>prolongadamente</I> el cuerno de carnero, así que oyereis el sonido de la trompeta, todo el pueblo gritará a gran voz, y el muro de la ciudad caerá debajo de sí; entonces el pueblo subirá cada uno en derecho de sí.

6 Y llamando Josué hijo de Nun <I>a</I> los sacerdotes, les dijo: Llevad el arca del pacto, y siete sacerdotes lleven siete <I>trompetas</I> de cuernos de carneros delante del arca del SEÑOR.

7 Y dijo al pueblo: Pasad, y cercad la ciudad; y los que están armados pasarán delante del arca del SEÑOR.

8 Y así que Josué hubo hablado al pueblo, los siete sacerdotes, llevando las siete <I>trompetas de</I> cuernos de carneros, pasaron delante del arca del SEÑOR, y tocaron las trompetas; y el arca del pacto del SEÑOR los seguía.

9 Y los armados iban delante de los sacerdotes que tocaban las trompetas, y la congregación iba detrás del arca, andando y tocando trompetas.

10 Y Josué mandó al pueblo, diciendo: Vosotros no daréis grita, ni se oirá vuestra voz, ni saldrá palabra de vuestra boca, hasta el día que <I>yo</I> os diga: Gritad; entonces daréis grita.

11 El arca pues del SEÑOR dio una vuelta alrededor de la ciudad, y volvieron <I>luego</I> al real, en el cual pasaron la noche.

12 Y Josué se levantó de mañana, y los sacerdotes tomaron el arca del SEÑOR.

13 Y los siete sacerdotes, llevando las siete <I>trompetas</I> de cuernos de carneros, fueron delante del arca del SEÑOR, andando siempre y tocando las trompetas; y los armados iban delante de ellos, y la congregación iba detrás del arca del SEÑOR, andando y tocando las trompetas.

14 Así dieron otra vuelta a la ciudad el segundo día, y volvieron al real; de esta manera hicieron por seis días.

15 Y al séptimo día se levantaron cuando subía el alba, y dieron vuelta a la ciudad de la misma manera siete veces; solamente este día dieron vuelta alrededor de ella siete veces.

16 Y cuando los sacerdotes hubieron tocado las trompetas la séptima vez, Josué dijo al pueblo: Dad grita, porque el SEÑOR os ha entregado la ciudad.

17 Mas la ciudad será anatema al SEÑOR, ella con todas las cosas que están en ella; solamente Rahab la ramera vivirá, con todos los que estuvieren en casa con ella, por cuanto escondió los mensajeros que enviamos.

18 Pero guardaos vosotros del anatema, que ni toquéis, ni toméis alguna cosa del anatema, para que no hagáis anatema el campamento de Israel, y lo turbéis.

19 Mas todo el oro, y la plata, y vasos de bronce y de hierro, sea consagrado al SEÑOR, <I>y</I> venga al tesoro del SEÑOR.

20 Entonces el pueblo dio grita, y <I>los sacerdotes</I> tocaron las trompetas; y aconteció que cuando el pueblo hubo oído el sonido de la trompeta, dio el pueblo grita con gran vocerío, y el muro cayó a plomo. El pueblo subió <I>luego</I> a la ciudad, cada uno derecho <I>hacia</I> adelante, y la tomaron.

21 Y destruyeron todo lo que había en la ciudad; hombres y mujeres, mozos y viejos, hasta los bueyes, y ovejas, y asnos, a filo de espada.

22 Mas Josué dijo a los dos varones que habían reconocido la tierra: Entrad en casa de la mujer ramera, y haced salir de allá a la mujer, y a todo lo que fuere suyo, como lo jurasteis.

23 Y los jóvenes espías entraron, y sacaron a Rahab, y a su padre, y a su madre, y a sus hermanos, y todo lo que era suyo; y también sacaron a toda su parentela, y los pusieron fuera en el campamento de Israel.

24 Y quemaron a fuego la ciudad, y todo lo que en ella <I>había</I> ; solamente pusieron en el tesoro de la casa del SEÑOR el oro, y la plata, y los vasos de bronce y de hierro.

25 Mas Josué dio la vida a Rahab la ramera, y a la casa de su padre, y a todo lo que ella tenía; y habitó ella entre los israelitas hasta hoy; por cuanto escondió los mensajeros que Josué envió a reconocer a Jericó.

26 Y en aquel tiempo Josué juró diciendo: Maldito sea delante del SEÑOR el hombre que se levantare y reedificare esta ciudad de Jericó. En su primogénito eche sus cimientos, y en su menor asiente sus puertas.

27 Fue, pues, el SEÑOR con Josué, y su nombre se divulgó por toda la tierra.

1 Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.

2 Then the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.

3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days.

4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.

5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”

6 So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant of the LORD and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it.”

7 And he ordered the army, “Advance! March around the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark of the LORD.”

8 When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the LORD went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the LORD’s covenant followed them.

9 The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding.

10 But Joshua had commanded the army, “Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!”

11 So he had the ark of the LORD carried around the city, circling it once. Then the army returned to camp and spent the night there.

12 Joshua got up early the next morning and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.

13 The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the LORD and blowing the trumpets. The armed men went ahead of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets kept sounding.

14 So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.

15 On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times.

16 The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the LORD has given you the city!

17 The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent.

18 But keep away from the devoted things, so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction and bring trouble on it.

19 All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must go into his treasury.”

20 When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.

21 They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

22 Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her.”

23 So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother, her brothers and sisters and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel.

24 Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house.

25 But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.

26 At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: “Cursed before the LORD is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: “At the cost of his firstborn son he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”

27 So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
