KJV 11 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim: NIV 11 Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals. KJV 12 And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger . NIV 12 They forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They provoked the LORD to anger KJV 13 And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth. NIV 13 because they forsook him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. KJV 14 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies . NIV 14 In his anger against Israel the LORD handed them over to raiders who plundered them. He sold them to their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist. KJV 15 Whithersoever they went out , the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said , and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed . NIV 15 Whenever Israel went out to fight, the hand of the LORD was against them to defeat them, just as he had sworn to them. They were in great distress. KJV 16 Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges , which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them. NIV 16 Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders. KJV 17 And yet they would not hearken unto their judges , but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in , obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so. NIV 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. Unlike their fathers, they quickly turned from the way in which their fathers had walked, the way of obedience to the LORD's commands. KJV 18 And when the LORD raised them up judges , then the LORD was with the judge , and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge : for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them. NIV 18 Whenever the LORD raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the LORD had compassion on them as they groaned under those who oppressed and afflicted them. KJV 19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned , and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way. NIV 19 But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their fathers, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.
