1 Tola, juez de Israel<br />Después de la muerte de Abimelec, la siguiente persona que rescató a Israel fue Tola, hijo de Puá, hijo de Dodo. Era de la tribu de Isacar pero vivía en la ciudad de Samir, en la zona montañosa de Efraín.

After the time of Abimelek, a man of Issachar named Tola son of Puah, the son of Dodo, rose to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.
2 Fue juez de Israel durante veintitrés años. Cuando murió, lo enterraron en Samir.

He led Israel twenty-three years; then he died, and was buried in Shamir.
3 Jair, juez de Israel<br />Después de la muerte de Tola, Jair, de Galaad, fue juez de Israel durante veintidós años.

He was followed by Jair of Gilead, who led Israel twenty-two years.
4 Sus treinta hijos cabalgaban sobre treinta burros y eran dueños de treinta ciudades en la tierra de Galaad, que aún se llaman las Ciudades de Jair.

He had thirty sons, who rode thirty donkeys. They controlled thirty towns in Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth Jair.

6 Los amonitas oprimen a Israel<br />Una vez más, los israelitas hicieron lo malo a los ojos del Señor<br />. Sirvieron a las imágenes de Baal y de Astoret, y a los dioses de Aram, de Sidón, de Moab, de Amón y de Filistea. Abandonaron al Señor<br /> y dejaron de servirle por completo.

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD. They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites and the gods of the Philistines. And because the Israelites forsook the LORD and no longer served him,
7 Entonces el Señor<br /> ardió de enojo contra los israelitas y los entregó en manos de los filisteos y los amonitas,

he became angry with them. He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites,

who that year shattered and crushed them. For eighteen years they oppressed all the Israelites on the east side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites.

The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin and Ephraim; Israel was in great distress.

Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, “We have sinned against you, forsaking our God and serving the Baals.”
11 El Señor<br /> respondió:<br />—¿Acaso no los rescaté yo de los egipcios, los amorreos, los amonitas, los filisteos,

The LORD replied, “When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,
12 los sidonios, los amalecitas y los maonitas? Cuando ellos los oprimían, ustedes clamaban a mí por ayuda, y yo los rescataba.

the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands?
13 Sin embargo, ustedes me abandonaron y sirvieron a otros dioses. Así que ya no los rescataré más.

But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you.
14 ¡Vayan a clamar a los dioses que han escogido! ¡Que los rescaten ellos de este momento de angustia!

Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!”
15 Pero los israelitas rogaron al Señor<br /> diciendo:<br />—Hemos pecado. Castíganos como bien te parezca, pero rescátanos hoy de nuestros enemigos.

But the Israelites said to the LORD, “We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best, but please rescue us now.”
16 Entonces los israelitas dejaron los dioses ajenos para servir al Señor<br />, y él se entristeció a causa del sufrimiento que experimentaban.

Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the LORD. And he could bear Israel’s misery no longer.
17 En esa ocasión, los ejércitos de Amón se habían juntado para la guerra y acampaban en Galaad, y el pueblo de Israel se congregó y acampó en Mizpa.

When the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.
18 Los líderes de Galaad se dijeron unos a otros: «El primero que ataque a los amonitas será proclamado gobernante de todo el pueblo de Galaad».

The leaders of the people of Gilead said to each other, “Whoever will take the lead in attacking the Ammonites will be head over all who live in Gilead.”
