Lamentations 5

WEB 1 Remember, Yahweh, what has come on us: Look, and see our reproach. NIV 1 Remember, O LORD, what has happened to us; look, and see our disgrace. WEB 2 Our inheritance is turned to strangers, Our houses to aliens. NIV 2 Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens, our homes to foreigners. WEB 3 We are orphans and fatherless; Our mothers are as widows. NIV 3 We have become orphans and fatherless, our mothers like widows. WEB 4 We have drunken our water for money; Our wood is sold to us. NIV 4 We must buy the water we drink; our wood can be had only at a price. WEB 5 Our pursuers are on our necks: We are weary, and have no rest. NIV 5 Those who pursue us are at our heels; we are weary and find no rest. WEB 6 We have given the hand to the Egyptians, To the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. NIV 6 We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread. WEB 7 Our fathers sinned, and are no more; We have borne their iniquities. NIV 7 Our fathers sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment. WEB 8 Servants rule over us: There is none to deliver us out of their hand. NIV 8 Slaves rule over us, and there is none to free us from their hands. WEB 9 We get our bread at the peril of our lives, Because of the sword of the wilderness. NIV 9 We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the desert. WEB 10 Our skin is black like an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine. NIV 10 Our skin is hot as an oven, feverish from hunger. WEB 11 They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah. NIV 11 Women have been ravished in Zion, and virgins in the towns of Judah. WEB 12 Princes were hanged up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored. NIV 12 Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders are shown no respect. WEB 13 The young men bare the mill; The children stumbled under the wood. NIV 13 Young men toil at the millstones; boys stagger under loads of wood. WEB 14 The elders have ceased from the gate, The young men from their music. NIV 14 The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped their music. WEB 15 The joy of our heart is ceased; Our dance is turned into mourning. NIV 15 Joy is gone from our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning. WEB 16 The crown is fallen from our head: Woe to us! for we have sinned. NIV 16 The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned! WEB 17 For this our heart is faint; For these things our eyes are dim; NIV 17 Because of this our hearts are faint, because of these things our eyes grow dim WEB 18 For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate: The foxes walk on it. NIV 18 for Mount Zion, which lies desolate, with jackals prowling over it. WEB 19 You, Yahweh, abide forever; Your throne is from generation to generation. NIV 19 You, O LORD, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation. WEB 20 Why do you forget us forever, [And] forsake us so long time? NIV 20 Why do you always forget us? Why do you forsake us so long? WEB 21 Turn you us to you, Yahweh, and we shall be turned; Renew our days as of old. NIV 21 Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may return; renew our days as of old WEB 22 But you have utterly rejected us; You are very angry against us. NIV 22 unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.
