Leviticus 1

NLT 1 The LORD called to Moses from the Tabernacle and said to him, NIV 1 The LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting. He said, NLT 2 “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. When you present an animal as an offering to the LORD , you may take it from your herd of cattle or your flock of sheep and goats. NIV 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When any of you brings an offering to the LORD, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock. NLT 3 “If the animal you present as a burnt offering is from the herd, it must be a male with no defects. Bring it to the entrance of the Tabernacle so you may be accepted by the LORD . NIV 3 " 'If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to offer a male without defect. He must present it at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting so that it will be acceptable to the LORD. NLT 4 Lay your hand on the animal’s head, and the LORD will accept its death in your place to purify you, making you right with him. NIV 4 He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. NLT 5 Then slaughter the young bull in the LORD ’s presence, and Aaron’s sons, the priests, will present the animal’s blood by splattering it against all sides of the altar that stands at the entrance to the Tabernacle. NIV 5 He is to slaughter the young bull before the LORD, and then Aaron's sons the priests shall bring the blood and sprinkle it against the altar on all sides at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. NLT 6 Then skin the animal and cut it into pieces. NIV 6 He is to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces. NLT 7 The sons of Aaron the priest will build a wood fire on the altar. NIV 7 The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. NLT 8 They will arrange the pieces of the offering, including the head and fat, on the wood burning on the altar. NIV 8 Then Aaron's sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, on the burning wood that is on the altar. NLT 9 But the internal organs and the legs must first be washed with water. Then the priest will burn the entire sacrifice on the altar as a burnt offering. It is a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the LORD . NIV 9 He is to wash the inner parts and the legs with water, and the priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. NLT 10 “If the animal you present as a burnt offering is from the flock, it may be either a sheep or a goat, but it must be a male with no defects. NIV 10 " 'If the offering is a burnt offering from the flock, from either the sheep or the goats, he is to offer a male without defect. NLT 11 Slaughter the animal on the north side of the altar in the LORD ’s presence, and Aaron’s sons, the priests, will splatter its blood against all sides of the altar. NIV 11 He is to slaughter it at the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron's sons the priests shall sprinkle its blood against the altar on all sides. NLT 12 Then cut the animal in pieces, and the priests will arrange the pieces of the offering, including the head and fat, on the wood burning on the altar. NIV 12 He is to cut it into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and the fat, on the burning wood that is on the altar. NIV 14 " 'If the offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, he is to offer a dove or a young pigeon. NLT 15 The priest will take the bird to the altar, wring off its head, and burn it on the altar. But first he must drain its blood against the side of the altar. NIV 15 The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off the head and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar. NLT 16 The priest must also remove the crop and the feathers and throw them in the ashes on the east side of the altar. NIV 16 He is to remove the crop with its contents and throw it to the east side of the altar, where the ashes are. NLT 17 Then, grasping the bird by its wings, the priest will tear the bird open, but without tearing it apart. Then he will burn it as a burnt offering on the wood burning on the altar. It is a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the LORD . NIV 17 He shall tear it open by the wings, not severing it completely, and then the priest shall burn it on the wood that is on the fire on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.
