Leviticus 19

RHE 1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: NIV 1 The LORD said to Moses, RHE 2 Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel. And thou shalt say to them: Be ye holy, because I the Lord your God am holy. NIV 2 "Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: 'Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy. RHE 3 Let every one fear his father, and his mother. Keep my sabbaths. I am the Lord your God. NIV 3 " 'Each of you must respect his mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God. RHE 4 Turn ye not to idols: nor make to yourselves molten gods. I am the Lord your God. NIV 4 " 'Do not turn to idols or make gods of cast metal for yourselves. I am the LORD your God. RHE 5 If ye offer in sacrifice a peace offering to the Lord, that he may be favourable: NIV 5 " 'When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the LORD, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. RHE 6 You shall eat it on the same day it was offered, and the next day. And whatsoever shall be left until the third day, you shall burn with fire. NIV 6 It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up. RHE 7 If after two days any man eat thereof, he shall be profane and guilty of impiety: NIV 7 If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted. RHE 8 And shall bear his iniquity, because he hath defiled the holy thing of the Lord. And that soul shall perish from among his people. NIV 8 Whoever eats it will be held responsible because he has desecrated what is holy to the LORD; that person must be cut off from his people. RHE 9 When thou reapest the corn of thy land, thou shalt not cut down all that is on the face of the earth to the very ground: nor shalt thou gather the ears that remain. NIV 9 " 'When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. RHE 10 Neither shalt thou gather the bunches and grapes that fall down in thy vineyard: but shalt leave them to the poor and the strangers to take. I am the Lord your God. NIV 10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God. RHE 11 You shall not steal. You shall not lie: neither shall any man deceive his neighbour. NIV 11 " 'Do not steal. " 'Do not lie. " 'Do not deceive one another. RHE 12 Thou shalt not swear falsely by my name, nor profane the name of thy God. I am the Lord. NIV 12 " 'Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the LORD. RHE 13 Thou shalt not calumniate thy neighbour, nor oppress him by violence. The wages of him that hath been hired by thee shall not abide with thee until the morning. NIV 13 " 'Do not defraud your neighbor or rob him. " 'Do not hold back the wages of a hired man overnight. RHE 14 Thou shalt not speak evil of the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind: but thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, because I am the Lord. NIV 14 " 'Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the LORD. RHE 15 Thou shalt not do that which is unjust, nor judge unjustly. Respect not the person of the poor: nor honour the countenance of the mighty. But judge thy neighbour according to justice. NIV 15 " 'Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly. RHE 16 Thou shalt not be a detractor nor a whisperer among the people. Thou shalt not stand against the blood of thy neighbour. I am the Lord. NIV 16 " 'Do not go about spreading slander among your people. " 'Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor's life. I am the LORD. RHE 17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart: But reprove him openly, lest thou incur sin through him. NIV 17 " 'Do not hate your brother in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in his guilt. RHE 18 Seek not revenge, nor be mindful of the injury of thy citizens. Thou shalt love thy friend as thyself. I am the Lord. NIV 18 " 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. RHE 19 Keep ye my laws. Thou shalt not make thy cattle to gender with beasts of any other kind. Thou shalt not sow thy field with different seeds. Thou shalt not wear a garment that is woven of two sorts. NIV 19 " 'Keep my decrees. " 'Do not mate different kinds of animals. " 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. " 'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material. RHE 20 If a man carnally lie with a woman that is a bondservant and marriageable, and yet not redeemed with a price, nor made free: they both shall be scourged: and they shall not be put to death, because she was not a free woman. NIV 20 " 'If a man sleeps with a woman who is a slave girl promised to another man but who has not been ransomed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment. Yet they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed. RHE 21 And for his trespass he shall offer a ram to the Lord, at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony. NIV 21 The man, however, must bring a ram to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting for a guilt offering to the LORD. RHE 22 And the priest shall pray for him: and for his sin before the Lord: and he shall have mercy on him, and the sin shall be forgiven. NIV 22 With the ram of the guilt offering the priest is to make atonement for him before the LORD for the sin he has committed, and his sin will be forgiven. RHE 23 When you shall be come into the land, and shall have planted in it fruit trees, you shall take away the firstfruits of them. The fruit that comes forth shall be unclean to you: neither shall you eat of them. NIV 23 " 'When you enter the land and plant any kind of fruit tree, regard its fruit as forbidden. For three years you are to consider it forbidden; it must not be eaten. RHE 24 But in the fourth year, all their fruit shall be sanctified, to the praise of the Lord. NIV 24 In the fourth year all its fruit will be holy, an offering of praise to the LORD. RHE 25 And in the fifth year you shall eat the fruits thereof, gathering the increase thereof. I am the Lord your God. NIV 25 But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit. In this way your harvest will be increased. I am the LORD your God. RHE 26 You shall not eat with blood. You shall not divine nor observe dreams. NIV 26 " 'Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it. " 'Do not practice divination or sorcery. RHE 27 Nor shall you cut your hair roundwise: nor shave your beard. NIV 27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard. RHE 28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh, for the dead: neither shall you make in yourselves any figures or marks. I am the Lord. NIV 28 " 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD. RHE 29 Make not thy daughter a common strumpet, lest the land be defiled, and filled with wickedness. NIV 29 " 'Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will turn to prostitution and be filled with wickedness. RHE 30 Keep ye my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary. I am the Lord. NIV 30 " 'Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD. RHE 31 Go not aside after wizards: neither ask any thing of soothsayers, to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God. NIV 31 " 'Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. RHE 32 Rise up before the hoary head, and honour the person of the aged man: and fear the Lord thy God. I am the Lord. NIV 32 " 'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD. RHE 33 If a stranger dwell in your land, and abide among you, do not upbraid hin: NIV 33 " 'When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. RHE 34 But let him be among you as one of the same country. And you shall love him as yourselves: for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God. NIV 34 The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God. RHE 35 Do not any unjust thing in judgment, in rule, in weight, or in measure. NIV 35 " 'Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity. RHE 36 Let the balance be just and the weights equal, the bushel just, and the sextary equal. I am the Lord your God, that brought you out of the land of Egypt. NIV 36 Use honest scales and honest weights, an honest ephah and an honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt. RHE 37 Keep all my precepts, and all my judgments: and do them. I am the Lord. NIV 37 " 'Keep all my decrees and all my laws and follow them. I am the LORD.' "
