Luke 12:13-21

CEB 13 Someone from the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." NRS 13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me." CEB 14 Jesus said to him, "Man, who appointed me as judge or referee between you and your brother?" NRS 14 But he said to him, "Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?" CEB 15 Then Jesus said to them, "Watch out! Guard yourself against all kinds of greed. After all, one's life isn't determined by one's possessions, even when someone is very wealthy." NRS 15 And he said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." CEB 16 Then he told them a parable: "A certain rich man's land produced a bountiful crop. NRS 16 Then he told them a parable: "The land of a rich man produced abundantly. CEB 17 He said to himself, What will I do? I have no place to store my harvest! NRS 17 And he thought to himself, "What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?' CEB 18 Then he thought, Here's what I'll do. I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. That's where I'll store all my grain and goods. NRS 18 Then he said, "I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. CEB 19 I'll say to myself, You have stored up plenty of goods, enough for several years. Take it easy! Eat, drink, and enjoy yourself. NRS 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' CEB 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool, tonight you will die. Now who will get the things you have prepared for yourself?' NRS 20 But God said to him, "You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' CEB 21 This is the way it will be for those who hoard things for themselves and aren't rich toward God." NRS 21 So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God."
