Luke 14:25-33

ESV 25 Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, NIV 25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: ESV 26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. NIV 26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple. ESV 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. NIV 27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. ESV 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? NIV 28 "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? ESV 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, NIV 29 For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, ESV 30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.' NIV 30 saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.' ESV 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? NIV 31 "Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? ESV 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. NIV 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. ESV 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. NIV 33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.
