Luke 16:19-31

RSV 19 "There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. NIV 19 "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. RSV 20 And at his gate lay a poor man named Laz'arus, full of sores, NIV 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores RSV 21 who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. RSV 24 And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Laz'arus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.' NIV 24 So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' RSV 25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Laz'arus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. NIV 25 "But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. RSV 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' NIV 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.' RSV 27 And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house, NIV 27 "He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, RSV 28 for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' NIV 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.' RSV 29 But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' NIV 29 "Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.' RSV 30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if some one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' NIV 30 " 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' RSV 31 He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.'" NIV 31 "He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "
