Luke 17

DBY 1 And he said to his disciples, It cannot be but that offences come, but woe [to him] by whom they come! NIV 1 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. DBY 2 It would be [more] profitable for him if a millstone were hanged about his neck and he cast into the sea, than that he should be a snare to one of these little ones. NIV 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. DBY 3 Take heed to yourselves: if thy brother should sin, rebuke him; and if he should repent, forgive him. NIV 3 So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. DBY 4 And if he should sin against thee seven times in the day, and seven times should return to thee, saying, I repent, thou shalt forgive him. NIV 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him." DBY 5 And the apostles said to the Lord, Give more faith to us. NIV 5 The apostles said to the LORD, "Increase our faith!" DBY 6 But the Lord said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard [seed], ye had said to this sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou planted in the sea, and it would have obeyed you. NIV 6 He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you. DBY 7 But which of you [is there] who, having a bondman ploughing or shepherding, when he comes in out of the field, will say, Come and lie down immediately to table? NIV 7 "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'? DBY 8 But will he not say to him, Prepare what I shall sup on, and gird thyself and serve me that I may eat and drink; and after that *thou* shalt eat and drink? NIV 8 Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? DBY 9 Is he thankful to the bondman because he has done what was ordered? I judge not. NIV 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? DBY 10 Thus *ye* also, when ye shall have done all things that have been ordered you, say, We are unprofitable bondmen; we have done what it was our duty to do. NIV 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.' " DBY 11 And it came to pass as he was going up to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. NIV 11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. DBY 12 And as he entered into a certain village ten leprous men met him, who stood afar off. NIV 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance DBY 13 And they lifted up [their] voice saying, Jesus, Master, have compassion on us. NIV 13 and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" DBY 14 And seeing [them] he said to them, Go, shew yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass as they were going they were cleansed. NIV 14 When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. DBY 15 And one of them, seeing that he was cured, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, NIV 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. DBY 16 and fell on [his] face at his feet giving him thanks: and *he* was a Samaritan. NIV 16 He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him--and he was a Samaritan. DBY 17 And Jesus answering said, Were not the ten cleansed? but the nine, where [are they]? NIV 17 Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? DBY 18 There have not been found to return and give glory to God save this stranger. NIV 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" DBY 19 And he said to him, Rise up and go thy way: thy faith has made thee well. NIV 19 Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well." DBY 20 And having been asked by the Pharisees, When is the kingdom of God coming? he answered them and said, The kingdom of God does not come with observation; NIV 20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, DBY 21 nor shall they say, Lo here, or, Lo there; for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you. NIV 21 nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you." DBY 22 And he said to the disciples, Days are coming, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and shall not see [it]. NIV 22 Then he said to his disciples, "The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. DBY 23 And they will say to you, Lo here, or Lo there; go not, nor follow [them]. NIV 23 Men will tell you, 'There he is!' or 'Here he is!' Do not go running off after them. DBY 24 For as the lightning shines which lightens from [one end] under heaven to [the other end] under heaven, thus shall the Son of man be in his day. NIV 24 For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. DBY 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected of this generation. NIV 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. DBY 26 And as it took place in the days of Noe, thus also shall it be in the days of the Son of man: NIV 26 "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. DBY 27 they ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed all [of them]; NIV 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. DBY 28 and in like manner as took place in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; NIV 28 "It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. DBY 29 but on the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulphur from heaven, and destroyed all [of them]: NIV 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. DBY 30 after this [manner] shall it be in the day that the Son of man is revealed. NIV 30 "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. DBY 31 In that day, he who shall be on the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not go down to take it away; and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. NIV 31 On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. DBY 32 Remember the wife of Lot. NIV 32 Remember Lot's wife! DBY 33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose it shall preserve it. NIV 33 Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. DBY 34 I say to you, In that night there shall be two [men] upon one bed; one shall be seized and the other shall be let go. NIV 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. DBY 35 Two [women] shall be grinding together; the one shall be seized and the other shall be let go. NIV 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left. " DBY 36 [Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be seized and the other let go.] DBY 37 And answering they say to him, Where, Lord? And he said to them, Where the body [is], there the eagles will be gathered together. NIV 37 "Where, LORD?" they asked. He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."
