Luke 17

LEB 1 And he said to his disciples, "It is impossible for causes for stumbling not to come, but woe [to him] through whom they come! NIV 1 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. LEB 2 It would be better for him if {a millstone} is placed around his neck and he is thrown into the sea than that he causes one of these little ones to sin. NIV 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. LEB 3 "Be concerned about yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. NIV 3 So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. LEB 4 And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times he returns to you saying, 'I repent,' you must forgive him." NIV 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him." LEB 5 And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" NIV 5 The apostles said to the LORD, "Increase our faith!" LEB 6 So the Lord said, "If you have faith like a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. NIV 6 He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you. LEB 7 "And which of you who has a slave plowing or shepherding [sheep] who comes in from the field will say to him, 'Come here at once [and] recline at the table'? NIV 7 "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'? LEB 8 Will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something that I may eat, and dress yourself to serve me while I eat and drink, and after these [things] you will eat and drink.' NIV 8 Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? LEB 9 He will not {be grateful} to the slave because he did what was ordered, [will he]? NIV 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? LEB 10 Thus you also, when you have done all the {things you were ordered to do}, say, 'We are unworthy slaves; we have done what we were obligated to do.'" NIV 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.' " LEB 11 And it happened that while traveling toward Jerusalem, he was passing through {the region between} Samaria and Galilee. NIV 11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. LEB 12 And [as] he was entering into a certain village, ten men met [him]--lepers, who stood at a distance. NIV 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance LEB 13 And they raised [their] voices, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" NIV 13 and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" LEB 14 And [when he] saw [them] he said to them, "Go [and] show yourselves to the priests." And it happened that as they were going, they were cleansed. NIV 14 When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. LEB 15 But one of them, [when he] saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. NIV 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. LEB 16 And he fell on [his] face at his feet, giving thanks to him. And he was a Samaritan. NIV 16 He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him--and he was a Samaritan. LEB 17 So Jesus answered [and] said, "Were not ten cleansed? And where [are] the nine? NIV 17 Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? LEB 18 Was no one found to turn back [and] give praise to God except this foreigner?" NIV 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" LEB 19 And he said to him, "Get up [and] go your way. Your faith has saved you." NIV 19 Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well." LEB 20 Now [when he] was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them and said, "The kingdom of God does not come with {things that can be observed}, NIV 20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, LEB 21 nor will they say, 'Behold, here [it is]!' or 'There!' For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst." NIV 21 nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you." LEB 22 And he said to the disciples, "Days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see [it]. NIV 22 Then he said to his disciples, "The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. LEB 23 And they will say to you, 'Behold, there!' 'Behold, here!' Do not go out or run after [them]! NIV 23 Men will tell you, 'There he is!' or 'Here he is!' Do not go running off after them. LEB 24 For just as the lightning shines forth, flashing from [one place] under heaven to [another place] under heaven, so the Son of Man will be in his day. NIV 24 For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. LEB 25 But first it is necessary [for] him to suffer many [things], and to be rejected by this generation. NIV 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. LEB 26 And just as it was in the days of Noah, so also it will be in the days of the Son of Man-- NIV 26 "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. LEB 27 they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed [them] all. NIV 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. LEB 28 Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot--they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building. NIV 28 "It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. LEB 29 But on the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed [them] all. NIV 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. LEB 30 It will be {just the same} on the day that the Son of Man is revealed. NIV 30 "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. LEB 31 On that day, whoever is on the housetop and his goods [are] in the house must not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who [is] in the field must not turn back NIV 31 On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. LEB 32 Remember Lot's wife! NIV 32 Remember Lot's wife! LEB 33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses [it] will keep it. NIV 33 Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. LEB 34 I tell you that in that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left. NIV 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. LEB 35 There will be two [women] grinding at the same [place]; one will be taken and the other will be left." NIV 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left. " LEB 37 And they answered [and] said to him, "Where, Lord?" So he said to them, "Where the dead body [is], there also the vultures will be gathered." NIV 37 "Where, LORD?" they asked. He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."
