Luke 18:18-30

RSV 18 And a ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" NIV 18 A certain ruler asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" RSV 19 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. NIV 19 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone. RSV 20 You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'" NIV 20 You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.' " RSV 21 And he said, "All these I have observed from my youth." NIV 21 "All these I have kept since I was a boy," he said. RSV 22 And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." NIV 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." RSV 23 But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich. NIV 23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth. RSV 24 Jesus looking at him said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! NIV 24 Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! RSV 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." NIV 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." RSV 26 Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?" NIV 26 Those who heard this asked, "Who then can be saved?" RSV 27 But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God." NIV 27 Jesus replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God." RSV 28 And Peter said, "Lo, we have left our homes and followed you." NIV 28 Peter said to him, "We have left all we had to follow you!" RSV 29 And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there is no man who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, NIV 29 "I tell you the truth," Jesus said to them, "no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God RSV 30 who will not receive manifold more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life." NIV 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life."
