Luke 19:1-10

NLT 1 Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town. NIV 1 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. NLT 2 There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich. NIV 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. NLT 3 He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. NIV 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. NLT 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. NIV 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. NLT 5 When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” NIV 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." NLT 6 Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. NIV 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. NLT 7 But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled. NIV 7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner.' " NLT 8 Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” NIV 8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." NLT 9 Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. NIV 9 Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. NLT 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” NIV 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."
