Luke 2

NKJV 1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. NIV 1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. NKJV 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. NIV 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) NKJV 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. NIV 3 And everyone went to his own town to register. NKJV 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, NIV 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. NKJV 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. NIV 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. NIV 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." NKJV 15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." NIV 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." NKJV 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. NIV 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. NKJV 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. NKJV 34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against NIV 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, NKJV 35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, NKJV 37 and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. NKJV 38 And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem. NKJV 40 And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. NKJV 44 but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day's journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. NIV 44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. NKJV 45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. NIV 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. NKJV 46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. NIV 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. NKJV 47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. NIV 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. NKJV 48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously." NIV 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you." NKJV 49 And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" NIV 49 "Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" NKJV 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them. NIV 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them. NKJV 51 Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. NIV 51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. NKJV 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. NIV 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
