Luke 22

NKJV 1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover. NIV 1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, NKJV 2 And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people. NIV 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. NKJV 3 Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. NIV 3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. NKJV 4 So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them. NIV 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. NKJV 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. NIV 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. NKJV 6 So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude. NIV 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present. NKJV 7 Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed. NIV 7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. NKJV 8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat." NIV 8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover." NKJV 9 So they said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare?" NIV 9 "Where do you want us to prepare for it?" they asked. NKJV 10 And He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters. NIV 10 He replied, "As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, NKJV 11 Then you shall say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?" ' NIV 11 and say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?' NKJV 12 Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready." NIV 12 He will show you a large upper room, all furnished. Make preparations there." NKJV 13 So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover. NIV 13 They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover. NKJV 14 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. NIV 14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. NKJV 15 Then He said to them, "With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; NIV 15 And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. NKJV 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God." NIV 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God." NKJV 17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, "Take this and divide it among yourselves; NIV 17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, "Take this and divide it among you. NKJV 18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." NIV 18 For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." NKJV 19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me." NIV 19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." NKJV 20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. NIV 20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. NKJV 21 But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table. NIV 21 But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. NKJV 22 And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!" NIV 22 The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed, but woe to that man who betrays him." NKJV 23 Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing. NIV 23 They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this. NKJV 24 Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. NIV 24 Also a dispute arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. NKJV 25 And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called 'benefactors.' NIV 25 Jesus said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. NKJV 26 But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. NIV 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. NKJV 27 For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. NIV 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. NKJV 28 But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. NIV 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials. NKJV 29 And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, NIV 29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, NKJV 30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel." NIV 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. NKJV 31 And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. NIV 31 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. NKJV 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." NIV 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." NKJV 33 But he said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death." NIV 33 But he replied, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death." NKJV 34 Then He said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me." NIV 34 Jesus answered, "I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me." NKJV 35 And He said to them, "When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they said, "Nothing." NIV 35 Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" "Nothing," they answered. NKJV 36 Then He said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. NIV 36 He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. NKJV 37 For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: 'And He was numbered with the transgressors.' For the things concerning Me have an end." NIV 37 It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment." NKJV 38 So they said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." NIV 38 The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords." "That is enough," he replied. NKJV 39 Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. NIV 39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. NKJV 40 When He came to the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." NIV 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation." NKJV 41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed, NIV 41 He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, NKJV 42 saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done." NIV 42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." NKJV 43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. NIV 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. NKJV 44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. NIV 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. NKJV 45 When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. NIV 45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. NKJV 46 Then He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation." NIV 46 "Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. "Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation." NKJV 47 And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. NIV 47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, NKJV 48 But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" NIV 48 but Jesus asked him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" NKJV 49 When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" NIV 49 When Jesus' followers saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, should we strike with our swords?" NKJV 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. NIV 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. NKJV 51 But Jesus answered and said, "Permit even this." And He touched his ear and healed him. NIV 51 But Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched the man's ear and healed him. NKJV 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, "Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? NIV 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? NKJV 53 When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness." NIV 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour--when darkness reigns." NKJV 54 Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed at a distance. NIV 54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. NKJV 55 Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. NIV 55 But when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. NKJV 56 And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, "This man was also with Him." NIV 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, "This man was with him." NKJV 57 But he denied Him, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him." NIV 57 But he denied it. "Woman, I don't know him," he said. NKJV 58 And after a little while another saw him and said, "You also are of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not!" NIV 58 A little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" Peter replied. NKJV 59 Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, "Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean." NIV 59 About an hour later another asserted, "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean." NKJV 60 But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are saying!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. NIV 60 Peter replied, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. NKJV 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." NIV 61 The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times." NKJV 62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly. NIV 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly. NKJV 63 Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. NIV 63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. NKJV 64 And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?" NIV 64 They blindfolded him and demanded, "Prophesy! Who hit you?" NKJV 65 And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him. NIV 65 And they said many other insulting things to him. NKJV 66 As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying, NIV 66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. NKJV 67 "If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will by no means believe. NIV 67 "If you are the Christ, " they said, "tell us." Jesus answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me, NKJV 68 And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go. NIV 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer. NKJV 69 Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God." NIV 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God." NKJV 70 Then they all said, "Are You then the Son of God?" So He said to them, "You rightly say that I am." NIV 70 They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied, "You are right in saying I am." NKJV 71 And they said, "What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth." NIV 71 Then they said, "Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips."
