Luke 23:26-56

NAS 26 When they led Him away, they seized a man, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus. NIV 26 As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. NAS 27 And following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him. NIV 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. NAS 28 But Jesus turning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. NIV 28 Jesus turned and said to them, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. NAS 29 "For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.' NIV 29 For the time will come when you will say, 'Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!' NAS 30 "Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, 'FALL ON US,' AND TO THE HILLS, 'COVER US.' NIV 30 Then " 'they will say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!" ' NAS 31 "For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?" NIV 31 For if men do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?" NAS 32 Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him. NIV 32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. NAS 33 When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One." NIV 35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One." NAS 36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine NIV 36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar NAS 37 and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!" NIV 37 and said, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself." NAS 38 Now there was also an inscription above Him, "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. NIV 38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews. NAS 39 One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!" NIV 39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" NAS 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? NIV 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? NAS 41 "And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds ; but this man has done nothing wrong." NIV 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." NAS 42 And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!" NIV 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. " NAS 43 And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." NIV 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." NAS 44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, NIV 44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, NAS 45 because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two. NIV 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. NAS 46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT." Having said this, He breathed His last. NIV 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last. NAS 47 Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, "Certainly this man was innocent." NIV 47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, "Surely this was a righteous man." NAS 48 And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, beating their breasts. NIV 48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away. NAS 49 And all His acquaintances and the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeing these things. NIV 49 But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. NAS 50 And a man named Joseph, who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man NIV 50 Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, NAS 51 (he had not consented to their plan and action ), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God; NIV 51 who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea and he was waiting for the kingdom of God. NAS 52 this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. NIV 52 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body. NAS 53 And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain.
