Luke 2:1-6

NRS 1 In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. NIV 1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. NRS 2 This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. NIV 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) NRS 3 All went to their own towns to be registered. NIV 3 And everyone went to his own town to register. NRS 4 Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. NIV 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. NRS 5 He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. NIV 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. NRS 6 While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child.
