Luke 4

NKJV 1 Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, NIV 1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, NKJV 2 being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. NIV 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. NKJV 6 And the devil said to Him, "All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. NKJV 7 Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours." NIV 7 So if you worship me, it will all be yours." NKJV 8 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.' " NIV 8 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.' " NKJV 9 Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. NIV 9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. NKJV 10 For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,' NIV 10 For it is written: " 'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; NKJV 11 "and, 'In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.' " NIV 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' " NKJV 12 And Jesus answered and said to him, "It has been said, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.' " NIV 12 Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' " NKJV 13 Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. NIV 13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. NKJV 14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. NKJV 23 He said to them, "You will surely say this proverb to Me, 'Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.' " NIV 23 Jesus said to them, "Surely you will quote this proverb to me: 'Physician, heal yourself ! Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.' " NKJV 24 Then He said, "Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country. NIV 24 "I tell you the truth," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown. NKJV 25 But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; NIV 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. NKJV 26 but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. NIV 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. NKJV 27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." NIV 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed--only Naaman the Syrian." NKJV 28 So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, NIV 28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. NKJV 29 and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!" NIV 34 "Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!" NKJV 35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him. NIV 35 "Be quiet!" Jesus said sternly. "Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him. NKJV 36 Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, "What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out." NIV 36 All the people were amazed and said to each other, "What is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!" NKJV 37 And the report about Him went out into every place in the surrounding region. NIV 37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area. NKJV 38 Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon's house. But Simon's wife's mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her. NIV 38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. NKJV 39 So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them. NIV 39 So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them. NKJV 40 When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. NIV 40 When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. NKJV 41 And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of God!" And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ. NIV 41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ. NKJV 42 Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them; NIV 42 At daybreak Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. NKJV 43 but He said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent." NIV 43 But he said, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent." NKJV 44 And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee. NIV 44 And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
