Luke 6:17-49

RSV 17 And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; NIV 17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, RSV 18 and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. NIV 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, RSV 19 And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came forth from him and healed them all. NIV 19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. RSV 20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: "Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. RSV 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. RSV 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. RSV 41 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? NIV 41 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? RSV 42 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye. NIV 42 How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. RSV 43 "For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit; NIV 43 "No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. RSV 44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. NIV 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. RSV 45 The good man out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure produces evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. NIV 45 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. RSV 46 "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you? NIV 46 "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? RSV 47 Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: NIV 47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. RSV 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built. NIV 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. RSV 49 But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great." NIV 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."
