Luke 9:10-17

NLT 10 When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he slipped quietly away with them toward the town of Bethsaida. NIV 10 When the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida, NLT 11 But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. And he welcomed them, teaching them about the Kingdom of God and curing those who were ill. NIV 11 but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing. NLT 12 Late in the afternoon the twelve disciples came to him and said, "Send the crowds away to the nearby villages and farms, so they can find food and lodging for the night. There is nothing to eat here in this deserted place." NIV 12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, "Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here." NLT 13 But Jesus said, "You feed them." "Impossible!" they protested. "We have only five loaves of bread and two fish. Or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food for this whole crowd?" NIV 13 He replied, "You give them something to eat." They answered, "We have only five loaves of bread and two fish--unless we go and buy food for all this crowd." NLT 14 For there were about five thousand men there. "Just tell them to sit down on the ground in groups of about fifty each," Jesus replied. NIV 14 (About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each." NLT 15 So the people all sat down. NIV 15 The disciples did so, and everybody sat down. NLT 16 Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and asked God's blessing on the food. Breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread and fish to the disciples to give to the people. NIV 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people. NLT 17 They all ate as much as they wanted, and they picked up twelve baskets of leftovers! NIV 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
