Luke 9:46-56

NLT 46 Then his disciples began arguing about which of them was the greatest. NIV 46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. NLT 47 But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he brought a little child to his side. NIV 47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. NLT 48 Then he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf9:48 Greek in my name. welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.” NIV 48 Then he said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all--he is the greatest." NLT 49 John said to Jesus, “Master, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he isn’t in our group.” NIV 49 "Master," said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us." NLT 50 But Jesus said, “Don’t stop him! Anyone who is not against you is for you.” NIV 50 "Do not stop him," Jesus said, "for whoever is not against you is for you." NLT 51 As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. NIV 51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. NLT 52 He sent messengers ahead to a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival. NIV 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; NLT 53 But the people of the village did not welcome Jesus because he was on his way to Jerusalem. NIV 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. NLT 54 When James and John saw this, they said to Jesus, “Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up ?” NIV 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them ?" NLT 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. NIV 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them, NLT 56 So they went on to another village. NIV 56 and they went to another village.
