Luke 9:51-62

NLT 51 As the time drew near for his return to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. NIV 51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. NLT 52 He sent messengers ahead to a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival. NIV 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; NLT 53 But they were turned away. The people of the village refused to have anything to do with Jesus because he had resolved to go to Jerusalem. NIV 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. NLT 54 When James and John heard about it, they said to Jesus, "Lord, should we order down fire from heaven to burn them up?" NIV 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them ?" NLT 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. NIV 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them, NLT 56 So they went on to another village. NIV 56 and they went to another village. NLT 57 As they were walking along someone said to Jesus, "I will follow you no matter where you go." NIV 57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." NLT 58 But Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but I, the Son of Man, have no home of my own, not even a place to lay my head." NIV 58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." NLT 59 He said to another person, "Come, be my disciple." The man agreed, but he said, "Lord, first let me return home and bury my father." NIV 59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." NLT 60 Jesus replied, "Let those who are spiritually dead care for their own dead. Your duty is to go and preach the coming of the Kingdom of God." NIV 60 Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." NLT 61 Another said, "Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family." NIV 61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family." NLT 62 But Jesus told him, "Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God." NIV 62 Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
