NIV 13 and he was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him. RSV 14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, NIV 14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. RSV 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel." NIV 15 "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!" RSV 16 And passing along by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. NIV 16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. RSV 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zeb'edee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. NIV 19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. RSV 20 And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zeb'edee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him. RSV 21 And they went into Caper'na-um; and immediately on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. NIV 21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. RSV 22 And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. NIV 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. RSV 23 And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; NIV 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, RSV 24 and he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? RSV 27 And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching! With authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." NIV 27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching--and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him." RSV 28 And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee. NIV 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee. RSV 33 And the whole city was gathered together about the door. NIV 38 Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else--to the nearby villages--so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." RSV 39 And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons. NIV 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. RSV 40 And a leper came to him beseeching him, and kneeling said to him, "If you will, you can make me clean." NIV 44 "See that you don't tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them." RSV 45 But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter. NIV 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places.
