Mark 10

HNV 1 He arose from there and came into the borders of Yehudah and beyond the Yarden. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he taught them again. NIV 1 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. HNV 2 Perushim came to him testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" NIV 2 Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" HNV 3 He answered, "What did Moshe command you?" NIV 3 "What did Moses command you?" he replied. HNV 4 They said, "Moshe allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her." NIV 4 They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." HNV 5 But Yeshua said to them, "For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this mitzvah. NIV 5 "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. HNV 6 But from the beginning of the creation, 'God made them male and female. NIV 6 "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' HNV 7 For this cause will a man leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife, NIV 7 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, HNV 8 and the two will become one flesh,' so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. NIV 8 and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. HNV 9 What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." NIV 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." HNV 10 In the house, his talmidim asked him again about the same matter. NIV 10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. HNV 11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her. NIV 11 He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. HNV 12 If a woman herself divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery." NIV 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." HNV 13 They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the talmidim rebuked those who were bringing them. NIV 13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. HNV 14 But when Yeshua saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me! Don't forbid them, for to such belong the kingdom of God. NIV 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. HNV 15 Most assuredly I tell you, whoever will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter therein." NIV 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." HNV 16 He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them. NIV 16 And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. HNV 17 As he was going forth into the way, one ran to him, kneeled to him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" NIV 17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" HNV 18 Yeshua said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except one -- God. NIV 18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone. HNV 19 You know the mitzvot: 'Do not murder,' 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not give false testimony,' 'Do not defraud,' 'Honor your father and mother.'" NIV 19 You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.' " HNV 20 He said to him, "Teacher, I have observed all these things from my youth." NIV 20 "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy." HNV 21 Yeshua looking at him loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross." NIV 21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." HNV 22 But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions. NIV 22 At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. HNV 23 Yeshua looked around, and said to his talmidim, "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!" NIV 23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" HNV 24 The talmidim were amazed at his words. But Yeshua answered again, "Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! NIV 24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! HNV 25 It is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." NIV 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." HNV 26 They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, "Then who can be saved?" NIV 26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?" HNV 27 Yeshua, looking at them, said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God." NIV 27 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." HNV 28 Kefa began to tell him, "Behold, we have left all, and have followed you." NIV 28 Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!" HNV 29 Yeshua said, "Most assuredly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the Good News's sake, NIV 29 "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel HNV 30 but he will receive one hundred times now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life. NIV 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields--and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. HNV 31 But many who are first will be last; and the last first." NIV 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first." HNV 32 They were on the way, going up to Yerushalayim; and Yeshua was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him. NIV 32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. HNV 33 "Behold, we are going up to Yerushalayim. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief Kohanim and the Sofrim. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Goyim. NIV 33 "We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, HNV 34 They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again." NIV 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise." HNV 35 Ya`akov and Yochanan, the sons of Zavdai, came near to him, saying, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask." NIV 35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask." HNV 36 He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" NIV 36 "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. HNV 37 They said to him, "Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand, and one at your left hand, in your glory." NIV 37 They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory." HNV 38 But Yeshua said to them, "You don't know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with?" NIV 38 "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?" HNV 39 They said to him, "We are able." Yeshua said to them, "You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with; NIV 39 "We can," they answered. Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, HNV 40 but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared." NIV 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared." HNV 41 When the ten heard it, they began to be moved with indignation towards Ya`akov and Yochanan. NIV 41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. HNV 42 Yeshua summoned them, and said to them, "You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the Goyim lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. NIV 42 Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. HNV 43 But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. NIV 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, HNV 44 Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be servant of all. NIV 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. HNV 45 For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." NIV 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." HNV 46 They came to Yericho. As he went out from Yericho, with his talmidim and a great multitude, the son of Timai, Bar-Timai, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. NIV 46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. HNV 47 When he heard that it was Yeshua the Natzri, he began to cry out, and say, "Yeshua, you son of David, have mercy on me!" NIV 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" HNV 48 Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out the more a great deal, "You son of David, have mercy on me!" NIV 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" HNV 49 Yeshua stood still, and said, "Call him." They called the blind man, saying to him, "Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!" NIV 49 Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you." HNV 50 He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Yeshua. NIV 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. HNV 51 Yeshua answered him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "Rabbani, that I may see again." NIV 51 "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see." HNV 52 Yeshua said to him, "Go your way. Your faith has made you well." Immediately he received his sight, and followed Yeshua in the way. NIV 52 "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
