KJV 1 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples, NIV 1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, KJV 2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied , whereon never man sat ; loose him, and bring him. NIV 2 saying to them, "Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. KJV 3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither. NIV 3 If anyone asks you, 'Why are you doing this?' tell him, 'The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.' " KJV 4 And they went their way , and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. NIV 4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, KJV 5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye , loosing the colt? NIV 5 some people standing there asked, "What are you doing, untying that colt?" KJV 6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded : and they let them go . NIV 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. KJV 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. NIV 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. KJV 8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way. NIV 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. KJV 9 And they that went before , and they that followed , cried , saying , Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: NIV 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, "Hosanna! " "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" KJV 10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. NIV 10 "Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!" "Hosanna in the highest!" KJV 11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come , he went out unto Bethany with the twelve. NIV 11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve. KJV 12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry : NIV 12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. KJV 13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came , if haply he might find any thing thereon : and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. NIV 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. KJV 14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it. NIV 14 Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it. KJV 15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; NIV 15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, KJV 16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. NIV 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. KJV 17 And he taught , saying unto them, Is it not written , My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. NIV 17 And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: " 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations' ? But you have made it 'a den of robbers.' " KJV 18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine. NIV 18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching. KJV 19 And when even was come , he went out of the city. NIV 19 When evening came, they went out of the city. KJV 20 And in the morning, as they passed by , they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. NIV 20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. KJV 21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away . NIV 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" KJV 22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. NIV 22 "Have faith in God," Jesus answered. KJV 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed , and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass ; he shall have whatsoever he saith . NIV 23 "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. KJV 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire , when ye pray , believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. NIV 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. KJV 25 And when ye stand praying , forgive , if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. NIV 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. " KJV 26 But if ye do not forgive , neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. KJV 27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, NIV 27 They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. KJV 28 And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things? NIV 28 "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you authority to do this?" KJV 29 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. NIV 29 Jesus replied, "I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. KJV 30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me. NIV 30 John's baptism--was it from heaven, or from men? Tell me!" KJV 31 And they reasoned with themselves, saying , If we shall say , From heaven; he will say , Why then did ye not believe him? NIV 31 They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' KJV 32 But if we shall say , Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed. NIV 32 But if we say, 'From men' . . ." (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.) KJV 33 And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell . And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. NIV 33 So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Jesus said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."
