Mark 15:35-45

RSV 35 And some of the bystanders hearing it said, "Behold, he is calling Eli'jah." RSV 36 And one ran and, filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Wait, let us see whether Eli'jah will come to take him down." NIV 36 One man ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink. "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down," he said. So as evening approached, RSV 43 Joseph of Arimathe'a, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. NIV 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. RSV 44 And Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. NIV 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. RSV 45 And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the body to Joseph. NIV 45 When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph.
