NIV 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. CSB 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David were 14 generations; and from David until the exile to Babylon, 14 generations; and from the exile to Babylon until the Messiah, 14 generations. NIV 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. CSB 18 The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. NIV 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. CSB 19 So her husband Joseph, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly. NIV 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. CSB 20 But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. NIV 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. CSB 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins." NIV 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." CSB 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: NIV 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: CSB 23 See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name Him Immanuel , which is translated "God is with us." NIV 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." CSB 24 When Joseph got up from sleeping, he did as the Lord's angel had commanded him. He married her NIV 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. CSB 25 but did not know her intimately until she gave birth to a son. And he named Him Jesus. NIV 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
