David was the father of Solomon by Bathsheba who had been the wife of Uriah. NIV 6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife, NAS 7 Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asa. NIV 7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, NAS 8 Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah. NIV 8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, NAS 9 Uzziah was the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah. NIV 9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, NAS 10 Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, and Amon the father of Josiah. NIV 10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, NAS 11 Josiah became the father of Jeconiah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. NIV 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. NAS 12 After the deportation to Babylon: Jeconiah became the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel. NIV 12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, NAS 13 Zerubbabel was the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor. NIV 13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, NAS 14 Azor was the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud. NIV 14 Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Eliud, NAS 15 Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob. NIV 15 Eliud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, NAS 16 Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah. NIV 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. NAS 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations. NIV 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. NAS 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. NIV 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. NAS 19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. NIV 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. NAS 20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. NIV 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. NAS 21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." NIV 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." NAS 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: NIV 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: NAS 23 "BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US." NIV 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." NAS 24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, NIV 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. NAS 25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus. NIV 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
