NIV 12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, NKJV 13 Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor. NIV 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. NKJV 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations. NIV 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. NKJV 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. NIV 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. NKJV 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. NIV 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. NKJV 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. NIV 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. NKJV 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." NIV 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." NKJV 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: NIV 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: NKJV 23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." NIV 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." NKJV 24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, NIV 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. NKJV 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus. NIV 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
