NIV 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. RHE 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David, are fourteen generations. And from David to the transmigration of Babylon, are fourteen generations: and from the transmigration of Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations. NIV 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. RHE 18 Now the generation of Christ was in this wise. When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child, of the Holy Ghost. NIV 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. RHE 19 Whereupon Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was minded to put her away privately. NIV 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. RHE 20 But while he thought on these things, behold the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost. NIV 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. RHE 21 And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name Jesus. For he shall save his people from their sins. NIV 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." RHE 22 Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying: NIV 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: RHE 23 Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. NIV 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." RHE 24 And Joseph rising up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife. NIV 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. RHE 25 And he knew her not till she brought forth her first born son: and he called his name Jesus. NIV 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
