And David the king begot Solomon by her that had been the wife of Uriah, NIV 6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife, TMB 7 and Solomon begot Rehoboam, and Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa, NIV 7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, TMB 8 and Asa begot Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah, NIV 8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, TMB 9 and Uzziah begot Jotham, and Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah, NIV 9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, TMB 10 and Hezekiah begot Manasseh, and Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Josiah, NIV 10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, TMB 11 and Josiah begot Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon. NIV 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. TMB 12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begot Salathiel, and Salathiel begot Zerubbabel, NIV 12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, TMB 13 and Zerubbabel begot Abiud, and Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor, NIV 13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, TMB 14 and Azor begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud, NIV 14 Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Eliud, TMB 15 and Eliud begot Eleazar, and Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob, NIV 15 Eliud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, TMB 16 and Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. NIV 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. TMB 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. NIV 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. TMB 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in this way: When His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. NIV 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. TMB 19 And Joseph her husband, being a just man and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. NIV 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. TMB 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. NIV 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. TMB 21 And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins." NIV 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." TMB 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, NIV 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: TMB 23 "Behold, a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel" (which being interpreted is, "God with us"). NIV 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." TMB 24 Then Joseph, being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife, NIV 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. TMB 25 and knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS. NIV 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
