Matthew 10

CJB 1 Yeshua called his twelve talmidim and gave them authority to drive out unclean spirits and to heal every kind of disease and weakness. NIV 1 He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. CJB 2 These are the names of the twelve emissaries: First, Shim`on, called Kefa, and Andrew his brother, Ya`akov Ben-Zavdai and Yochanan his brother, NIV 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; CJB 3 Philip and Bar-Talmai, T'oma and Mattityahu the tax-collector, Ya`akov Bar-Halfai and Taddai, NIV 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; CJB 4 Shim`on the Zealot, and Y'hudah from K'riot, who betrayed him. NIV 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. CJB 5 These twelve Yeshua sent out with the following instructions: "Don't go into the territory of the Goyim, and don't enter any town in Shomron, NIV 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. CJB 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Isra'el. NIV 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. CJB 7 As you go, proclaim, `The Kingdom of Heaven is near,' NIV 7 As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' CJB 8 heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those afflicted with tzara'at, expel demons. You have received without paying, so give without asking payment. NIV 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. CJB 9 Don't take money in your belts, no gold, no silver, no copper; NIV 9 Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; CJB 10 and for the trip don't take a pack, an extra shirt, shoes or a walking stick -- a worker should be given what he needs. NIV 10 take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep. CJB 11 "When you come to a town or village, look for someone trustworthy and stay with him until you leave. NIV 11 "Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. CJB 12 When you enter someone's household, say, `Shalom aleikhem!' NIV 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting. CJB 13 If the home deserves it, let your shalom rest on it; if not, let your shalom return to you. NIV 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. CJB 14 But if the people of a house or town will not welcome you or listen to you, leave it and shake its dust from your feet! NIV 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. CJB 15 Yes, I tell you, it will be more tolerable on the Day of Judgment for the people of S'dom and `Amora than for that town! NIV 15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. CJB 16 "Pay attention! I am sending you out like sheep among wolves, so be as pru dent as snakes and as harmless as doves. NIV 16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. CJB 17 Be on guard, for there will be people who will hand you over to the local Sanhedrins and flog you in their synagogues. NIV 17 "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. CJB 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as a testimony to them and to the Goyim. NIV 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. CJB 19 But when they bring you to trial, do not worry about what to say or how to say it; when the time comes, you will be given what you should say. NIV 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, CJB 20 For it will not be just you speaking, but the Spirit of your heavenly Father speaking through you. NIV 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. CJB 21 "A brother will betray his brother to death, and a father his child; children will turn against their parents and have them put to death. NIV 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. CJB 22 Everyone will hate you because of me, but whoever holds out till the end will be preserved from harm. NIV 22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. CJB 23 When you are persecuted in one town, run away to another. Yes indeed; I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Isra'el before the Son of Man comes. NIV 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. CJB 24 "A talmid is not greater than his rabbi, a slave is not greater than his master. NIV 24 "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. CJB 25 It is enough for a talmid that he become like his rabbi, and a slave like his master. Now if people have called the head of the house Ba`al-Zibbul, how much more will they malign the members of his household! NIV 25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! CJB 26 So do not fear them; for there is nothing covered that will not be uncovered, or hidden that will not be known. NIV 26 "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. CJB 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim on the housetops. NIV 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. CJB 28 "Do not fear those who kill the body but are powerless to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who can destroy both soul and body in Gei-Hinnom. NIV 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. CJB 29 Aren't sparrows sold for next to nothing, two for an assarion? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's consent. NIV 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny ? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. CJB 30 As for you, every hair on your head has been counted. NIV 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. CJB 31 So do not be afraid, you are worth more than many sparrows. NIV 31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. CJB 32 "Whoever acknowledges me in the presence of others I will also acknowledge in the presence of my Father in heaven. NIV 32 "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. CJB 33 But whoever disowns me before others I will disown before my Father in heaven. NIV 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. CJB 34 "Don't suppose that I have come to bring peace to the Land. It is not peace I have come to bring, but a sword! NIV 34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. CJB 35 For I have come to set NIV 35 For I have come to turn " 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law-- CJB 36 a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, so that a man's enemies will be the members of his own household. NIV 36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' CJB 37 Whoever loves his father or mother more than he loves me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than he loves me is not worthy of me. NIV 37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; CJB 38 And anyone who does not take up his execution-stake and follow me is not worthy of me. NIV 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. CJB 39 Whoever finds his own life will lose it, but the person who loses his life for my sake will find it. NIV 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. CJB 40 "Whoever receives you is receiving me, and whoever receives me is receiving the One who sent me. NIV 40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. CJB 41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive the reward a prophet gets, and anyone who receives a tzaddik because he is a tzaddik will receive the reward a tzaddik gets. NIV 41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. CJB 42 Indeed, if someone gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my talmid -- yes! -- I tell you, he will certainly not lose his reward!" NIV 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."
