Matthew 10

NAS 1 Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. NIV 1 He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. NAS 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; NIV 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; NAS 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; NIV 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; NAS 4 Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Him. NAS 5 These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; NIV 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. NAS 6 but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. NIV 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. NAS 7 "And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' NIV 7 As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' NAS 8 "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. NIV 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. NAS 9 "Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, NIV 9 Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; NAS 10 or a bag for your journey, or even two coats, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is worthy of his support. NIV 10 take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep. NAS 11 "And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay at his house until you leave that city. NIV 11 "Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. NAS 12 "As you enter the house, give it your greeting. NIV 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting. NAS 13 "If the house is worthy, give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace. NIV 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. NAS 14 "Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. NIV 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. NAS 15 "Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. NIV 15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. NAS 16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves. NIV 16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. NAS 17 "But beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts and scourge you in their synagogues; NIV 17 "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. NAS 18 and you will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. NIV 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. NAS 19 "But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say. NIV 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, NAS 20 "For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. NIV 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. NAS 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. NIV 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. NAS 22 "You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. NIV 22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. NAS 23 "But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes. NIV 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. NAS 24 "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. NIV 24 "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. NAS 25 "It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household! NIV 25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! NAS 26 "Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. NIV 26 "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. NAS 27 "What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops. NIV 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. NAS 28 "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. NIV 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. NAS 29 "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. NIV 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny ? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. NAS 30 "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. NIV 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. NAS 31 "So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. NIV 31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. NAS 32 "Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. NIV 32 "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. NAS 33 "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven. NIV 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. NAS 34 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. NIV 34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. NAS 35 "For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW; NIV 35 For I have come to turn " 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law-- NAS 36 and A MAN'S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD. NIV 36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' NAS 37 "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. NIV 37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; NAS 38 "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. NIV 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. NAS 39 "He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it. NIV 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. NAS 40 "He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. NIV 40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. NAS 41 "He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. NIV 41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. NAS 42 "And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward." NIV 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."
