Matthew 10

NRS 1 Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. NRS 17 Beware of them, for they will hand you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues; NIV 17 "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. NRS 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them and the Gentiles. NRS 19 When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you at that time; NIV 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, NRS 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. NRS 22 and you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. NIV 22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. NRS 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next; for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. NIV 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. NRS 24 "A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above the master; NIV 24 "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. NRS 25 it is enough for the disciple to be like the teacher, and the slave like the master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household! NIV 25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! NRS 26 "So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. NIV 26 "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. NRS 27 What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops. NIV 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. NRS 28 Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. NIV 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. NRS 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? NRS 33 but whoever denies me before others, I also will deny before my Father in heaven. NIV 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. NRS 34 "Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. NIV 34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. NRS 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; NIV 35 For I have come to turn " 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law-- NRS 36 and one's foes will be members of one's own household. NIV 36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' NRS 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; NIV 37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; NRS 38 and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me. NIV 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. NRS 39 Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. NIV 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. NRS 40 "Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. NIV 40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. NRS 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; NIV 41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. NRS 42 and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward." NIV 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."
