Matthew 10

WYC 1 And when his twelve disciples were called together, he gave to them power of unclean spirits, to cast them out of men, and to heal every languor, and sickness. [And the twelve disciples called together, he gave to them power of unclean spirits, that they should cast them out, and that they should heal all ache, and all sickness.] NIV 1 He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. WYC 2 And these be the names of the twelve apostles; the first, Simon, that is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother; James of Zebedee, and John, his brother; NIV 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; WYC 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew, publican; and James [of] Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; NIV 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; WYC 4 Simon Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, that betrayed Christ [and Judas Iscariot, which betrayed him]. NIV 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. WYC 5 Jesus sent these twelve, and commanded them, and said [commanding to them, and saying], Go ye not into the way of heathen men, and enter ye not into the cities of Samaritans; NIV 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. WYC 6 but rather go ye to the sheep of the house of Israel, that have perished. [but rather go ye to the sheep of the house of Israel, that perished.] NIV 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. WYC 7 And go ye, and preach ye, and say, that the kingdom of heavens shall approach; [Soothly ye going preach, saying, for the kingdom of heavens shall nigh;] NIV 7 As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' WYC 8 heal ye sick men, raise ye dead men, cleanse ye mesels [cleanse ye leprous men], cast ye out devils; freely ye have taken, freely give ye. NIV 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. WYC 9 Do not ye wield gold, nor silver, nor money in your girdles, NIV 9 Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; WYC 10 not a scrip in the way, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor a staff; for a workman is worthy his meat. [neither a scrip in the way, neither two coats, neither shoes, neither a rod; for a workman is worth his meat.] NIV 10 take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep. WYC 11 Into whatever city or castle ye shall enter, ask ye who therein is worthy, and there dwell ye, till ye go out. NIV 11 "Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. WYC 12 And when ye go into an house, greet ye it, and say [Forsooth ye entering into an house, greet ye, or salute ye, it, saying], Peace to this house. NIV 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting. WYC 13 And if that house be worthy, your peace shall come on it; but if that house be not worthy, your peace shall turn again to you. NIV 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. WYC 14 And whoever receiveth not you, nor heareth your words, go ye forth from that house or city, and sprinkle off the dust of your feet. [+And whoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, ye going out from that house, or city, smite away the dust from your feet.] NIV 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. WYC 15 Truly I say to you, it shall be more sufferable to the land of men of Sodom and of Gomorrha [of Sodom and Gomorrha] in the day of judgment, than to that city. NIV 15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. WYC 16 Lo! I send you as sheep in the middle of wolves; therefore be ye sly as serpents, and simple as doves. [+Lo! I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore be ye prudent, either wise/wary, or wise before, as serpents, and simple as doves.] NIV 16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. WYC 17 But be ye ware of men, for they shall take you in councils, and they shall beat you in their synagogues; NIV 17 "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. WYC 18 and to mayors, or presidents, and to kings, ye shall be led for me, in witnessing to them, and to heathen men. NIV 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. WYC 19 But when they take you, do not ye think, how or what thing ye shall speak [But when they shall take, or betray, you, do not ye think, how or what ye shall speak], for it shall be given to you in that hour, what ye shall speak; NIV 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, WYC 20 for it be not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father, that speaketh in you. NIV 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. WYC 21 And the brother shall betake the brother into death, and the father the son, and [the] sons shall rise against [their] father and mother, and shall torment them by death [and shall torment them to death]. NIV 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. WYC 22 And ye shall be in hate to all men for my name; but he that shall dwell still into the end, shall be made safe. [And ye shall be in hatred to all men for my name; forsooth he that shall continue till into the end, shall be safe.] NIV 22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. WYC 23 And when they pursue you in this city, flee ye into another. Truly I say to you, ye shall not end the cities of Israel, before that man's Son come [till that man's Son come]. NIV 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. WYC 24 The disciple is not above the master [The disciple is not above his master], nor the servant above his lord; NIV 24 "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. WYC 25 it is enough to the disciple, that he be as his master, and to the servant as his lord. If they have called the husbandman Beelzebub [If they have called the husbandman, or the father of (the) household, Beelzebub], how much more his household members? NIV 25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! WYC 26 Therefore dread ye not them; for nothing is hid [for nothing is covered, or hid], that shall not be showed; and nothing is privy, that shall not be known. NIV 26 "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. WYC 27 That thing that I say to you in darknesses, say ye in the light; and preach ye on houses [and preach ye upon roofs], that thing that ye hear in the ear. NIV 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. WYC 28 And do not ye dread them that slay the body; for they be not able to slay the soul; but rather dread ye him, that be able to destroy both soul and body into hell. [And do not ye dread them that slay the body; truly they be not able to slay the soul; but rather dread ye him, that be able to lose both soul and body into hell.] NIV 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. WYC 29 Whether two sparrows be not sold for an halfpenny? and one of them shall not fall on the earth without your Father. NIV 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny ? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. WYC 30 And all the hairs of your head be numbered. NIV 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. WYC 31 Therefore do not ye dread; ye be better than many sparrows. NIV 31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. WYC 32 Therefore every man that shall acknowledge me before men, [and] I shall acknowledge him before my Father that is in heavens. NIV 32 "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. WYC 33 But he that shall deny me before men, and I shall deny him before my Father that is in heavens [and I shall deny him before my Father which is in heavens]. NIV 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. WYC 34 Do not ye deem, that I came to send peace into earth [Do not ye deem, that I came to send peace into the earth]; I came not to send peace, but sword. NIV 34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. WYC 35 For I came to part a man against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the son's wife against the husband's mother; NIV 35 For I have come to turn " 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law-- WYC 36 and the enemies of a man be they, that be at home with him. NIV 36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' WYC 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me. And he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy to me [is not worthy of me]. NIV 37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; WYC 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy to me [is not worthy of me]. NIV 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. WYC 39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it; and he that loseth his life for me, shall find it. NIV 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. WYC 40 He that receiveth you, receiveth me; and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me. NIV 40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. WYC 41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall take the meed of a prophet [shall receive the meed of a prophet]. And he that receiveth a just man in the name of a just man, shall take the meed of a just man [shall receive the meed of a just man]. NIV 41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. WYC 42 And whoever giveth drink to one of these least a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his meed. NIV 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."
