Matthew 11

CSB 1 When Jesus had finished giving orders to His 12 disciples, He moved on from there to teach and preach in their towns. NIV 1 After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee. CSB 2 When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent [a message] by his disciples NIV 2 When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples CSB 3 and asked Him, "Are You the One who is to come, or should we expect someone else?" NIV 3 to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?" CSB 4 Jesus replied to them, "Go and report to John what you hear and see: NIV 4 Jesus replied, "Go back and report to John what you hear and see: CSB 5 the blind see, the lame walk, those with skin diseases are healed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news. NIV 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. CSB 6 And if anyone is not offended because of Me, he is blessed." NIV 6 Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me." CSB 7 As these men went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind? NIV 7 As John's disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? CSB 8 What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothes? Look, those who wear soft clothes are in kings' palaces. NIV 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings' palaces. CSB 9 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet. NIV 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. CSB 10 This is the one it is written about: Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You; he will prepare Your way before You. NIV 10 This is the one about whom it is written: " 'I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.' CSB 11 "I assure you: Among those born of women no one greater than John the Baptist has appeared, but the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. NIV 11 I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. CSB 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been suffering violence, and the violent have been seizing it by force. NIV 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it. CSB 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John; NIV 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. CSB 14 if you're willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who is to come. NIV 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. CSB 15 Anyone who has ears should listen! NIV 15 He who has ears, let him hear. CSB 16 "To what should I compare this generation? It's like children sitting in the marketplaces who call out to each other: NIV 16 "To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others: CSB 17 We played the flute for you, but you didn't dance; we sang a lament, but you didn't mourn! NIV 17 " 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.' CSB 18 For John did not come eating or drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon!' NIV 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' CSB 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds." NIV 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." ' But wisdom is proved right by her actions." CSB 20 Then He proceeded to denounce the towns where most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent: NIV 20 Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. CSB 21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes long ago! NIV 21 "Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. CSB 22 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. NIV 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. CSB 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until today. NIV 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. CSB 24 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you." NIV 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you." CSB 25 At that time Jesus said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to infants. NIV 25 At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. CSB 26 Yes, Father, because this was Your good pleasure. NIV 26 Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. CSB 27 All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son desires to reveal Him. NIV 27 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. CSB 28 "Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. NIV 28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. CSB 29 All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. NIV 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. CSB 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." NIV 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
