Matthew 14:13-36

NAS 13 Now when Jesus heard about John, He withdrew from there in a boat to a secluded place by Himself; and when the people heard of this, they followed Him on foot from the cities. NIV 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. NAS 14 When He went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and felt compassion for them and healed their sick. NIV 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. NAS 15 When it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said, "This place is desolate and the hour is already late; so send the crowds away, that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves." NIV 15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." NAS 16 But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away; you give them something to eat!" NIV 16 Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." NAS 17 They said to Him, "We have here only five loaves and two fish." NIV 17 "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered. NAS 18 And He said, "Bring them here to Me." NIV 18 "Bring them here to me," he said. NAS 19 Ordering the people to sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds, NIV 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. NAS 20 and they all ate and were satisfied. They picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve full baskets. NIV 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. NAS 21 There were about five thousand men who ate, besides women and children. NIV 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. NAS 22 Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away. NIV 22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. NAS 23 After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone. NIV 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, NAS 24 But the boat was already a long distance from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was contrary. NIV 24 but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. NAS 25 And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. NIV 25 During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. NAS 26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out in fear. NIV 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. NAS 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid." NIV 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." NAS 28 Peter said to Him, "Lord , if it is You, command me to come to You on the water." NIV 28 "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." NAS 29 And He said, "Come!" And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. NIV 29 "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. NAS 30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord , save me!" NIV 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" NAS 31 Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" NIV 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" NAS 32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. NIV 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. NAS 33 And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, "You are certainly God's Son!" NIV 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God." NAS 34 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. NIV 34 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. NAS 35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent word into all that surrounding district and brought to Him all who were sick; NIV 35 And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him NAS 36 and they implored Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and as many as touched it were cured. NIV 36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.
