Matthew 19:16-30

CSB 16 Just then someone came up and asked Him, "Teacher, what good must I do to have eternal life?" NIV 16 Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" CSB 17 "Why do you ask Me about what is good?" He said to him. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments." NIV 17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments." CSB 18 "Which ones?" he asked Him. Jesus answered, Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness; NIV 18 "Which ones?" the man inquired. Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, CSB 19 honor your father and your mother; and love your neighbor as yourself. NIV 19 honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.' " CSB 20 "I have kept all these," the young man told Him. "What do I still lack?" NIV 20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?" CSB 21 "If you want to be perfect," Jesus said to him, "go, sell your belongings and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me." NIV 21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." CSB 22 When the young man heard that command, he went away grieving, because he had many possessions. NIV 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. CSB 23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "I assure you: It will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven! CSB 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." NIV 26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." CSB 27 Then Peter responded to Him, "Look, we have left everything and followed You. So what will there be for us?" NIV 27 Peter answered him, "We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?" CSB 28 Jesus said to them, "I assure you: In the Messianic Age, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on 12 thrones, judging the 12 tribes of Israel. NIV 28 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. CSB 29 And everyone who has left houses, brothers or sisters, father or mother, children, or fields because of My name will receive 100 times more and will inherit eternal life. NIV 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. CSB 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first. NIV 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
