CSB 14 "For it is just like a man going on a journey. He called his own slaves and turned over his possessions to them. NIV 14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. CSB 15 To one he gave five talents; to another, two; and to another, one-to each according to his own ability. Then he went on a journey. Immediately NIV 15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. CSB 16 the man who had received five talents went, put them to work, and earned five more. NIV 16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. CSB 17 In the same way the man with two earned two more. NIV 17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. CSB 18 But the man who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master's money. NIV 18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. CSB 19 "After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. NIV 19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. CSB 20 The man who had received five talents approached, presented five more talents, and said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. Look, I've earned five more talents.' NIV 20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.' CSB 21 "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master's joy!' NIV 21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' CSB 22 "Then the man with two talents also approached. He said, 'Master, you gave me two talents. Look, I've earned two more talents.' NIV 22 "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.' CSB 23 "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master's joy!' NIV 23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' CSB 24 "Then the man who had received one talent also approached and said, 'Master, I know you. You're a difficult man, reaping where you haven't sown and gathering where you haven't scattered seed. NIV 24 "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. CSB 25 So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. Look, you have what is yours.' NIV 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' CSB 26 "But his master replied to him, 'You evil, lazy slave! If you knew that I reap where I haven't sown and gather where I haven't scattered, NIV 26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? CSB 27 then you should have deposited my money with the bankers. And when I returned I would have received my money back with interest. NIV 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. CSB 28 " 'So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has 10 talents. NIV 28 " 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. CSB 29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. NIV 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. CSB 30 And throw this good-for-nothing slave into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' NIV 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
