Matthew 28

LEB 1 Now after the Sabbath, at the dawning on the first [day] of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to view the tomb. NIV 1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. LEB 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came up [and] rolled away the stone and sat down on it. NIV 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. LEB 3 Now his appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow. NIV 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. LEB 4 And the guards trembled from the fear of him and became like dead men. NIV 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. LEB 5 But the angel answered [and] said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. LEB 7 And go quickly, tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and behold, he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there.' Behold, I have told you." NIV 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you." LEB 8 And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, [and] ran to tell his disciples. NIV 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. LEB 9 And behold, Jesus met them, saying, "Greetings!" And they came up [and] took hold of his feet and worshiped him. NIV 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. LEB 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid! Go tell my brothers that they should go to Galilee, and there they will see me." NIV 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me." LEB 11 And [while] they were going, behold, some of the guard of soldiers went into the city [and] reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. NIV 11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. LEB 12 And [after they] had assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave a rather large sum of money to the soldiers, NIV 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, LEB 13 telling [them], "Say 'His disciples came during the night [and] stole him [while] we were sleeping.' NIV 13 telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.' LEB 14 And if this [matter] is heard before the governor, we will satisfy him and {keep you out of trouble}." NIV 14 If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." LEB 15 So they took the money [and] did as they were told, and spread abroad this report among the Jews until this very day. NIV 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day. LEB 16 So the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated for them. NIV 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. LEB 17 And [when they] saw him, they worshiped [him], but some doubted. NIV 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. LEB 18 And Jesus approached [and] spoke to them, saying, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. NIV 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. LEB 19 Therefore, go [and] make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, NIV 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, LEB 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age." NIV 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
