Matthew 2:13-23

RSV 13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him." NIV 13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." RSV 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt, NIV 14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, RSV 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, "Out of Egypt have I called my son." NIV 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." RSV 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was in a furious rage, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men. NIV 16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. RSV 17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: NIV 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: RSV 18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they were no more." NIV 18 "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more." RSV 19 But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, NIV 19 After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt RSV 20 "Rise, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are dead." NIV 20 and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead." RSV 21 And he rose and took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. NIV 21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. RSV 22 But when he heard that Archelaus reigned over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee. NIV 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, RSV 23 And he went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazarene." NIV 23 and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene."
