Matthew 6

LEB 1 "And take care not to practice your righteousness before people to be seen by them; {otherwise} you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. NIV 1 "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. LEB 2 Therefore whenever you practice charitable giving, do not sound a trumpet in front of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, in order that they may be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward in full! NIV 2 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. LEB 3 But you, [when you] practice charitable giving, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, NIV 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, LEB 4 in order that your charitable giving may be in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. LEB 5 And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to stand [and] pray in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, in order that they may be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward in full! NIV 5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. LEB 6 But whenever you pray, enter into your inner room and shut your door [and] pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. LEB 7 "But [when you] pray, do not babble repetitiously like the pagans, for they think that because of their many words they will be heard. NIV 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. LEB 8 Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows {what you need} before you ask him. NIV 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. LEB 9 Therefore you pray in this way: "Our Father who is in heaven, may your name be treated as holy. NIV 9 "This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, LEB 10 May your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as [it is] in heaven. NIV 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. LEB 11 Give us today our daily bread, NIV 11 Give us today our daily bread. LEB 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. NIV 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. LEB 13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. NIV 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ' LEB 14 For if you forgive people their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. NIV 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. LEB 15 But if you do not forgive people, neither will your Father forgive your sins. NIV 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. LEB 16 "Whenever you fast, do not be sullen like the hypocrites, for they make their faces unrecognizable in order that they may be seen fasting by people. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward in full! NIV 16 "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. LEB 17 But [when] you are fasting, {put olive oil on your head} and wash your face NIV 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, LEB 18 so that you will not be seen by people as fasting, but to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. LEB 19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and consuming [insect] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, NIV 19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. LEB 20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor consuming [insect] destroy and where thieves do not break in or steal. NIV 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. LEB 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. NIV 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. LEB 22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. Therefore if your eye is sincere, your whole body will be full of light. NIV 22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. LEB 23 But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be dark. Therefore if the light in you is darkness, how great [is] the darkness! NIV 23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! LEB 24 "No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money. NIV 24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. LEB 25 "For this [reason] I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you will eat, and not for your body, what you will wear. Is your life not more than food and your body [more than] clothing? NIV 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? LEB 26 Consider the birds of the sky, that they do not sow or reap or gather [produce] into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they [are]? NIV 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? LEB 27 And who among you, [by] being anxious, is able to add one hour to his life span? NIV 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ? LEB 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe the lilies of the field, how they grow: they do not toil or spin, NIV 28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. LEB 29 but I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of these. NIV 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. LEB 30 But if God dresses the grass of the field in this way, [although it] is [here] today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not [do so] much more [for] you, you of little faith? NIV 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? LEB 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?,' NIV 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' LEB 32 for the pagans seek after all these [things]. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these [things]. NIV 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. LEB 33 But seek first his kingdom and righteousness, and all these [things] will be added to you. NIV 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. LEB 34 Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, because tomorrow will be anxious for itself. {Each day has enough trouble of its own.} NIV 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
