And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. NIV 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. LEB 4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them." NIV 4 Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." LEB 5 Now [when] he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him, appealing to him NIV 5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. LEB 7 And he said to him, "I will come [and] heal him." NIV 7 Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him." LEB 8 And the centurion answered [and] said, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should come in under my roof. But only say the word and my slave will be healed. NIV 8 The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. LEB 9 For I also am a man under authority who has soldiers under me, and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another one, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does [it]." NIV 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." LEB 10 Now [when] Jesus heard [this], he was astonished, and said to those who were following [him], "Truly I say to you, I have found such great faith with no one in Israel. NIV 10 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. LEB 11 But I say to you that many will come from east and west and {be seated at the banquet} with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. NIV 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. LEB 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!" NIV 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." LEB 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "Go, as you have believed it will be done for you." And the slave was healed at that hour. NIV 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that very hour. LEB 14 And [when] Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying down and suffering with a fever. NIV 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. LEB 16 Now [when it] was evening, they brought to him many who were demon-possessed, and he expelled the spirits with a word. And he healed all {those who were sick}, NIV 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. LEB 17 in order that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said, "He himself took away our sicknesses, and carried away our diseases."<note: A quotation from Isa 53:4> NIV 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases." LEB 18 Now [when] Jesus saw many crowds around him, he gave orders to depart to the other side. NIV 18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. LEB 19 And a scribe approached [and] said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go!" NIV 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." LEB 20 And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky [have] nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." NIV 20 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." LEB 21 And another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father." NIV 21 Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." LEB 22 But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead!" NIV 22 But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead." LEB 23 And [as] he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. NIV 23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. LEB 24 And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being inundated by the waves, but he himself was asleep. We are perishing!" NIV 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" LEB 26 And he said to them, "Why are you fearful, [you] of little faith?" Then he got up [and] rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm. NIV 26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. LEB 27 And the men were astonished, saying, "What sort of [man] is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?" NIV 27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!" LEB 28 And [when] he came to the other side, to the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from among the tombs met him, very violent, so that no one was able to pass by along that road. NIV 28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. LEB 29 And behold, they cried out, saying, "{What do you have to do with us}, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?" NIV 29 "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" LEB 30 Now a long way from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. NIV 30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. LEB 31 So the demons implored him, saying, "If you are going to expel us, send us into the herd of pigs." NIV 31 The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs." LEB 32 And he said to them, "Go!" So they departed [and] went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the sea and drowned in the water. NIV 32 He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. LEB 33 Now the herdsmen fled and went into the town [and] reported everything, including the things concerning the demon-possessed men. NIV 33 Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. LEB 34 And behold, the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and [when they] saw him, they implored [him] that he would depart from their region. NIV 34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
