Matthew 8

NAS 1 When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. NIV 1 When he came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. NAS 2 And a leper came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, "Lord , if You are willing, You can make me clean." NIV 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." NAS 3 Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. NIV 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. NAS 4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." NIV 4 Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." NAS 5 And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him, NIV 5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. NAS 6 and saying, "Lord , my servant is lying paralyzed at home, fearfully tormented." NIV 6 "Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering." NAS 7 Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." NIV 7 Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him." NAS 8 But the centurion said, "Lord , I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed. NIV 8 The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. NAS 9 "For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does it." NIV 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." NAS 10 Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, "Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel. NIV 10 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. NAS 11 "I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; NIV 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. NAS 12 but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." NIV 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." NAS 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed that very moment. NIV 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that very hour. NAS 14 When Jesus came into Peter's home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever. NIV 14 When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. NAS 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him. NIV 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. NAS 16 When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill . NAS 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: "HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES." NAS 18 Now when Jesus saw a crowd around Him, He gave orders to depart to the other side of the sea. NIV 18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. NAS 19 Then a scribe came and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go." NIV 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." NAS 20 Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." NIV 20 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." NAS 21 Another of the disciples said to Him, "Lord , permit me first to go and bury my father." NIV 21 Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." NAS 22 But Jesus said to him, "Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead." NIV 22 But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead." NAS 23 When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. NIV 23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. NAS 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep. NIV 24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. NAS 25 And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, "Save us, Lord ; we are perishing!" NIV 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" NAS 26 He said to them, "Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm. NIV 26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. NAS 27 The men were amazed, and said, "What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" NIV 27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!" NAS 28 When He came to the other side into the country of the Gadarenes, two men who were demon-possessed met Him as they were coming out of the tombs. They were so extremely violent that no one could pass by that way. NIV 28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. NAS 29 And they cried out, saying, "What business do we have with each other, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?" NIV 29 "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" NAS 30 Now there was a herd of many swine feeding at a distance from them. NIV 30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. NAS 31 The demons began to entreat Him, saying, "If You are going to cast us out, send us into the herd of swine." NIV 31 The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs." NAS 32 And He said to them, "Go!" And they came out and went into the swine, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters. NIV 32 He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. NAS 33 The herdsmen ran away, and went to the city and reported everything, including what had happened to the demoniacs. NIV 33 Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. NAS 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they implored Him to leave their region. NIV 34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
