Matthew 9:9-13

NRS 9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. NIV 9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. NRS 10 And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples. NIV 10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. NRS 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" NIV 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?" NRS 12 But when he heard this, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. NIV 12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. NRS 13 Go and learn what this means, "I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners." NIV 13 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
